Important information about allowing anyone to see Energy Performance Certificates

This register of Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and recommendation reports is kept in line with Part 6 of the Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) (England and Wales) Regulations 2007. A recommendation report shows what can be done to improve the energy efficiency of a property. You can see the regulations at http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2007/uksi_20070991_en.pdf.

The regulations say that you may have access to any EPC and recommendation report on this register if you have its reference number. You may also save and print a copy of it. You can get the reference number from the energy assessor who produced the EPC.

If you are not the owner or a tenant of the building (or acting on behalf of the owner or tenant), it is a criminal offence to show or allow someone else to show any EPC or recommendation report, or any information taken from it (including a reference number) to anyone, unless:

I have read and understood the information set out above.

You can be fined up to £5000 if you allow anyone to see any part of an EPC or recommendation report if you are not entitled to do so. For more information see regulation 14 of the Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) (England and Wales) Regulations 2007. You can see the regulations at http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2007/uksi_20070991_en.pdf.
